PDK Associates, a Texas
company, is in the market of 'service to small
business'.
There are many 'assumptions'
inherent in the running of a Fortune 500 company, that do not
necessarily apply to a small business. There are
many, however, that do apply.
One such assumption is that
the computers in the company, and the software and infrastructure
that allow them to function and collaborate, should be proactively
maintained, secured, and protected as key assets to the
company.
A company of 5,000 employees
may have dozens of people whose sole function is the ongoing
reliable operation of the company's computers computers; 8-10
hours per day, 40-50 or more hours per
week.
So, are small business
computers 'exempt' from any of the pitfalls, from which the large
companies protect themselves ?
Certainly not.
If anything, they MAY be more likely to encounter computer
viruses, 'adware', 'spyware', 'iffy' electrical power in a rented
business space,
problematic 'small business' software, and the list
continues.
The small business is, in
fact, statistically more likely to encounter an Information
Technology failure that would do tangible damage to their business,
if only counted in the lost productivity caused by a computer that
can't be used. The other extreme is the potential loss of critical
business records, stored as a folder on a single computer, that are
totally lost due to a microsecond electrical surge that destroys the
storage disk.
Lightening storms ?
PDK Associates is in the
sole business of providing small business the attention, protection,
stability and reliability in their use of information technology
(referred to hereafter as IT).
The service is 'scaled' to
meet the needs of the company, usually expressed in time spent at
the business location, performing the tasks associated with
reliability, availability and security (RAS). It can range from a single
computer, to a network of dozens of computers, servers, printers,
plotters, storage devices, etc.
PDK will learn how your
business uses IT. We
will survey what you have and how it's used, and if appropriate,
make recommendations on more cost effective, or more efficient, ways
to use what you have.
Often, PDK works with small
businesses who have reached such a size or degree of success that
their reliance on information has grown to require better access,
better manipulation (trends, summaries, inventories, etc.), and
surer availability of their data. Relying upon PDK Associates
as your 'IT Department' really only differs in one significant
way; our cost will be over 40% lower, based
upon hourly rates, than companies such as those who use 'Geek' in
the name. Now, that REALLY says something to me.
